Something for everyone in our Adult Programs.

What is better than to see a child engaged and having fun as they create their own unique masterpiece or discover why so many newts make Filoli their home? Children and their families can enjoy Filoli and its bountiful resources through interactive programming and hands–on learning designed just for them.

School Programs
Filoli serves thousands of school children and teachers each year through three curriculum-based programs. Scholarships and transportation funds are available to schools serving a high percentage of low–income families. For more information visit the Teachers and School Programs page.

Botanical Art for Children

10:00 am – 12:30 pm
Instructor: Dorothy Hunter

Children ages 10 and older are introduced to the wonderful world of botanical art, including fundamental principles, drawing skills and color mixing using graphite pencil and colored pencils. The class begins with a walk through the garden, followed by a talk about botanical art and the tools they will use, a light snack then hands-on instruction and drawing. A fun morning spent creating something beautiful!

Fee each class: $50 members; $60 non–members. Fee includes all materials. Children 10 and older are welcome.

Family Fun with Flowers – Fall Arrangements

Saturday, October 15, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Instructors: Karen Flores and Marian VandenBosch

Enjoy this popular class as a family outing. Flower arranging is fun and easy and you are never too young or too old to start! Any one–adult–one–child combination can enjoy each other’s company while learning to make a fun fall flower arrangement with seasonal embellishments. Each participant will make their own arrangement to take home.

Fee: $65 members; $75 non–members. Fee is good for one adult and one child age 5 and up and includes all materials.

The Property Through Time

Morning Hikes: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, Saturdays, July 9, August 6, or October 8

Discover how the families that lived at Filoli used what is now the Nature Preserve. Go on a Docent led hike to visit these special locations — the pond and water tanks, the Bocce court, the cemetery and so much more. This hike covers approximately 2 miles of trails; dress for hiking and do not forget your camera!

Adult Fee: $15 members; $20 non–members.
Child Fee: $5 members; $10 non–members. Children ages 7 and older that are accompanied by an adult are welcome.

Nature In The Garden

Morning Walks, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, Sundays, June 19, July 10, or October 9

Take a guided walk in and around the Garden with a Nature Docent and learn about the plants and animals that make Filoli their Home. Discover hidden secrets of the animals that live here like where they live, what plants are important to them and why the Garden is such a special place for them. Now you can spot them in your backyard!

Adult Fee: $15 members; $20 non–members.
Child Fee: $5 members; $10 non–members. All ages welcome; this walk is well–suited for families with younger children.

Experience the tranquility of Filoli’s nature preserve in the light of the setting sun. Bring your family for a hike in the woodlands at dusk, the ideal time of day to spot our resident wildlife. Don’t forget your cameras and binoculars! This is a two–hour hike on varied terrain. At times it can be strenuous. Please discuss any physical limitations with your docent before you head out. For safety reasons (narrow, steep, and rocky) strollers and wheelchairs cannot be accommodated on the trails.

Adult Fee: $10 members; $15 non–members.
Child Fee: $5 members; $10 non–members.
Children 5 and older are welcome. Non–member fee includes same day admission to the House and Garden.

Did you know that Filoli’s nature preserve has more than seven miles of trails crisscrossing six different types of native California habitats? Join experienced Nature Education Docents on a guided, two-hour hike along some of these well–maintained trails. Experience the beauty and tranquility of our nature preserve while learning about the natural environment and the wildlife that make Filoli their home.

Fee: Free for members or with paid admission to Filoli – $20 adults; $10 children.
Non–member fee includes same–day admission to the House and Garden during normal business hours, 10:00 am – 3:30 pm.

*Except on Special Event days.

Orchard Walks – A benefit of membership!

The Orchard at Filoli is 6.8 acres in size and includes more than 600 fruit tree varieties, including apples, pears, plums, quince, apricots, nectarines, plums, nuts, and more. It is an eclectic connoisseur’s collection of European and American varieties of fruits, many of which were originally grown for the enjoyment of the family of the estate.

Take a walk in our orchard and learn more about this defining landscape feature, taste fruit (when available) right off the tree and discover what Filoli is doing to conserve not only the rare fruits but the traditions of this unique heirloom orchard.
