Adult Education at Filoli

Something for everyone in our Adult Programs.

What is better than to see a child engaged and having fun as they create their own unique masterpiece or discover why so many newts make Filoli their home? Children and their families can enjoy Filoli and its bountiful resources through interactive programming and hands–on learning designed just for them.

School Programs
Filoli serves thousands of school children and teachers each year through three curriculum-based programs. Scholarships and transportation funds are available to schools serving a high percentage of low–income families. For more information visit the Teachers and School Programs page.

Fall Fairy Gardens for Families

Saturday, October 1, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
Instructor: Carrie Ewing

Enjoy this new class as a family outing. You are never too old or too young to have fun creating something magical! Any one–adult one–child combination can enjoy each other’s company while learning to create a special garden any fairy would be delighted to live in. Using fun items provided by the instructor, you will build a very special one–of–a–kind garden of your very own.

Fee: $80 members; $95 non–members. Fee is good for one adult and one child age 7 and older and includes most materials. Please bring a shallow container to hold your fairy garden – 8” x 12” – rectangle or round. A box, basket, toy or other fun item can be used. Be creative!

Family Fun with Flowers – Fall Arrangements

Saturday, October 15, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Instructors: Karen Flores and Marian VandenBosch

Enjoy this popular class as a family outing. Flower arranging is fun and easy and you are never too young or too old to start! Any one–adult–one–child combination can enjoy each other’s company while learning to make a fun fall flower arrangement with seasonal embellishments. Each participant will make their own arrangement to take home.

Fee: $65 members; $75 non–members. Fee is good for one adult and one child age 5 and up and includes all materials.

Botanical Art for Children
Colorful Fall Flowers, Leaves, and Pumpkins

Saturday, October 22, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm
Instructor: Dorothy Hunter

Children ages 10 and older are introduced to the wonderful world of botanical art, including fundamental principles, drawing skills and color mixing using graphite pencil and colored pencils. The class begins with a walk through the garden, followed by a talk about botanical art and the tools they will use, a light snack then hands-on instruction and drawing. A fun morning spent creating something beautiful!

Fee each class: $50 members; $60 non–members. Fee includes all materials. Children 10 and older are welcome.
