Libraries

The Sterling Library

The Sterling Library is located in the upstairs sitting room over the study. Originally conceived by Filoli Center as a research library in horticulture and garden design, the Library's mission has been expanded to include decorative arts and other topics directly related to Filoli. Outstanding collections in these areas make the Sterling Library an excellent source for professionals as well as dedicated amateurs. Fireside Chats, a wonderful Filoli member benefit, take place in the Sterling Library. Open by appointment. Please contact the Filoli Collection Manager, Julie DeVere.

Fireside Chats — A Filoli Member Benefit

Fireside Chats are a wonderful way for current Filoli Members to explore Filoli’s libraries, located on the second floor of the historic House that once was the Bourn’s private quarters. Fireside chats are informal, armchair journeys held each month in the Sterling Library, Filoli’s research library and are open to Filoli Members. Topics range from our crystal collection, the Bourn’s Muckross estate, Georgian England, botanical art, architects and artists of California and embroidery. Fireside chats are a small–group format and reservations can be made by calling the Membership Office at (650) 364–8300, ext. 508, Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Seats fill up quickly.
