Join us during Holiday Traditions to Celebrate! 100 Years of Holidays
Friday, November 25 through Saturday, December 3

Over the past century, the holidays have been special times at Filoli. Family traditions were created and celebrated. And in 2016, that unique spirit continues, as we “Celebrate! 100 Years of Holidays.”

evening view of the front of the house during holiday traditions the reception room all decked out in holiday splendor family takes a holiday photo after the children's party the reception room all decked out in holiday splendor madrigal singers entertain guests during holiday traditions the ballroom all decked out in holiday splendor sisters pose for a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus the dining room all glammed up for holiday traditions

Imagine coming to a holiday party hosted by the Bourn or Roth family. This year Filoli recreates that experience at Holiday Traditions. It begins when you arrive at the front courtyard of the House as it appeared for a Bourn or Roth holiday party filled with festive decorations and vintage cars. Like decades ago, as you enter the House, you’ll be greeted in the Foyer by the butler. The two families celebrated the holidays mainly in the Reception, Dining, and Ballrooms, and in these rooms you’ll find vintage elegance in both holiday decorations and unique gift items.

When you enter the dazzling Reception Room, with its Champagne Centennial theme in sparkling colors, an impressive seventeen–foot tree sets the scene for a champagne and caviar bar. The Vintage Elegance Dining Room will tantalize your senses with unique food items from local artisans. Beautifully decorated trees line the Ballroom as it becomes the Palace Grounds, where you can find that special item for formal entertaining as well as elegant holiday decorations.

Many other rooms of the House will beckon you to linger and enjoy. Seeking Christmas decorations? Christmas Traditions in the Drawing Room is the place to look. The heart of the House—the kitchen’s Estate Bounty and the Pantry’s Butler’s Domain—will be overflowing with delectable foods and accessories. More delights and surprises await you in the Forest Den (Men’s Cloakroom), Bavarian Chalet (Women’s Cloakroom), Fabulous Frocks (Library), To the Hounds (Study), and Rudolph & Pals (Trophy Room). If you’re looking for holiday plants, bulbs, and fresh greenery, that’s all available for purchase, too.

This nine–day event kicks off on Opening Night November 25 when the Dining Room transforms into a yesteryear holiday party with Roth decorations and centennial memorabilia. You’ll enjoy sumptuous appetizers, champagne, wine, and other beverages under the festively–lit tent on the Dining Room Terrace and in the Dining Room (black tie encouraged). On the following days, you can shop the day or evening holiday boutiques, enjoy a buffet lunch, savor a bistro dinner in the Café, or attend the delightful Children’s Lunch on Saturday, December 3. Every day will be enhanced by musical entertainment to lift your holiday spirit and add to your festive experience.

Winter glistens at Filoli each year as dazzling lights dance around and throughout the House. Gather your family and friends to experience the best of this holiday season!

“The sensation of falling into the past is not unlike that of coming home for the holidays.”
— Patrick O’Brian, novelist
