Friday, November 27 through Saturday, December 5

Step into a world of understated elegance, combining rustic and vintage elements engaging to the eye and pleasing to the senses. Each room will entice and delight you with rich jewel tones; ruby red, emerald green, amethyst, and topaz accented with dazzling gold, shimmering silver, and deep copper. The divine décor will captivate you with exquisitely decorated trees, mantles brimming with fresh flowers and greenery, wreaths embellishing windows, and sconces with touches of sparkle sprinkled throughout. Warm holiday scents drift softly through the rooms awakening fond memories.

Passing first through the Foyer, beautifully decorated in brilliant reds and greens, you’ll arrive in the Reception Room, the Crown Jewel of the House with its soaring seventeen foot tree dripping in brilliant jeweled, copper and gold ornaments. The opulent Tower of Jewels, the 435–foot, colorful cut–glass covered centerpiece of the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, to which William Bourn II was an early contributor, is the inspiration for this magnificently decorated tree. The Tower shimmered and sparkled by day and glittered with illumination at night. Among the many items in this superbly merchandised room, be sure to look for the special Vaillancourt Folk Art Santas commemorating Filoli’s Centennial. The Ballroom becomes a gorgeous vintage Jewel Box with elegantly themed trees, tables overflowing with exceptional and unique treasures, beautiful items for formal entertaining as well as elegant holiday decorations.

Stroll through the Filoli Marketplace, sample specialty foods, sweets, and treats from local artisans. Hear squeals of excitement as you take little ones by the hand to visit the Toy Shop and see their excitement as you arrive in the Gingerbread Bakery and Peppermint Pantry with its colorful display of masterfully crafted gingerbread houses and peppermint treats.

Shop the latest fashions and accessories in the trendy Women’s Clothing Boutique. Find the perfect holiday outfit or choose from a tasteful selection of jewelry, scarves, purses, hats, and gloves. The Men’s Club returns, furnished with cozy leather sofas, and a variety of sporting and bar accessories. Find something special in the Vintage Christmas Room, Wine and Cheese Bar, and Garden Room. A selection of bulbs, holiday plants, fresh bay, magnolia, and boxwood wreaths are available for purchase.

The nine–day event begins early Friday evening November 27 with Opening Night Première Shopping, a first look at the adorned House. Beginning Saturday November 28, shop the daytime or evening holiday boutiques, enjoy a Buffet Lunch, choose from two evening Bistros in the Café, or attend one of the delightful Children’s Parties on Saturday, December 5. Musical entertainment will enhance the joyful spirit of the season throughout the event.

This year, let Holiday Traditions take you back to a time of discovery. A time when hopes and dreams ignited the imaginations of the Bourns as they embarked on a three–year quest to bring their dreams to life. The breathtaking beauty of the vast watershed property became the inspiration for their vision and what you see today. Their memorable adventure began 100 years ago on this lush, vibrant, and enduring land known simply as Filoli.

In recognition of Filoli’s centennial theme celebrating the land, the following quote is an excerpt from a book called The Immortal Wilderness, by John Hay, an American author, naturalist and conservation activist: “There are occasions when you can hear the mysterious language of the Earth, in water, or coming through the trees, emanating from the mosses, seeping through the under currents of the soil, but you have to be willing to wait and receive.”
