“Petal Tales, once upon a time . . .”
Interpreting Children's Storybooks with Flowers

Thursday evening, May 9 through Sunday, May 12, 2013

This year we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Filoli Flower Show!

Brightly-colored tablesetting displayed in the Filoli Reception roomFiloli reception room adorned with a golden and yellow arrangement and tablesetting.

Tickets go on sale, beginning Monday, April 8.

Come to see the floral spectacle that is staged throughout the historic House. Each year, during the Mother’s Day weekend, exhibiting professional and amateur floral designers from the greater Bay Area delight our senses with their floral masterpieces depicting their interpretations of our theme.

In celebration of the silver anniversary and this year’s theme, the Roth children — twin sisters, Lurline and Berenice, and brother William — will be honored at the Opening Night Reception on Thursday evening, May 9. Tickets to the reception include admission to the Flower Show that same evening. Guests will stroll the Garden at twilight and enjoy wine, champagne, appetizers, and music throughout. In addition, you will have the opportunity to meet the designers and exhibitors.

New floral designers, proffesional and amateur, will join many returning participants to interpret this year’s theme, a children’s storybook of their choice. Some of the books already selected are Rapunzel, Where the Wild Things Are, Cat in the Hat and Sleeping Beauty. You are sure to find your old favorite book and maybe even new ones. Designers begin planning their interpretation of the theme as early as January. Signs with the book title will be posted in front of each exhibit. But why not make it fun and challenge yourself to figure it out?

The children’s floral arrangements are always popular, as are table–setting exhibits in The Ballroom. Nurseries, garden clubs and horticulturalists from all over California will participate. Stroll through the Garden, where you will see the outdoor exhibitors’ creations, which will include unique nurseries and garden landscape exhibitions. Among them, an amazing succulent mural designed just for the storybook theme. Visit the courtyard of the Greenhouses for educational exhibitors, where Garden Information Docents will be on hand to answer your questions. Flower demonstrations and musical entertainment in the House and Garden will enhance your visit.

Spend a fun day at Filoli and celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Flower Show with us!

During the Flower Show there is no room for strollers in the Garden and Gift Shop or at the Teas or Brunches in the Visitor and Education Center. Advance ticket purchase is recommended. Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. On Sunday, Cañada Road is closed from Highway 92 to Filoli’s entrance. If you are coming to Filoli from the north, please follow these directions.

Please note: Thursday, May 9 the House will be closed to visitors in preparation for the Filoli Flower Show. General admission to the Garden only will be $7 from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm with the last admission at 2:30 pm.
