A Day Filled with Family Fun
When you arrive at the House, you will see the horses and carriages of the Peninsula Carriage Driving Club, always a favorite with the children and a perfect place to stop for a picture. We are again happy to have the Fortis Agility Sports Training Group putting their talented dogs through their obstacle courses on the north side of the House. There will be a pen of alpacas for viewing and a miniature horse for petting. You will see adorable puppies in training to be guide dogs.
Pot decorating.
Potting a plant.
The Sunken Garden in spring bloom.
Be sure to visit the Filoli greenhouses for a rare chance to see the behind–the–scenes operation.
As you approach the front door of the House, the courtyard will be set up with face painters and craft tables for the children to participate in and enjoy. When you enter the House, you will be treated to stunning floral displays from our volunteers at Filoli. Go into the Ballroom and take in a magic performance by Heather Rodgers to delight young and old alike. There will also be a puppet show by puppet master extraordinaire Nick Barone who has pleased audiences here at Filoli for other events. Elsewhere in the House, Cathy Rampley, a talented storyteller and a Filoli staff member, will transport her young audience with stories and props.
In the Filoli Garden Shop Courtyard you will have the pleasure of sampling items made by Susan Knapp from “A Perfect Pear” in Napa Valley and “Iveta Gourmet,” which features freshly-baked scones and jam. Filoli’s very own honey, herb mixes and vinegars will be there to sample as well. John Wind will have his “Maximal Art” creations for you to enjoy and purchase. Filoli’s Garden Shop will be wellstocked with a beautiful array of treasures for your home. Our popcorn machine will be full of fresh-popped corn and the lemonade cart will have drinks and cookies for sale. Don’t miss the flower arranging demonstrations on the southwest terrace staffed by the Floral Design Committee.
Shorebirds Band will have you tapping your toes to their music near the Visitor and Education Center. Likewise, Joe’s Jazz Ensemble will be performing for your listening pleasure on the Tennis Court. This is also the location where you can relax and enjoy your prepaid boxed lunches which are available and must be ordered prior to the event. The Filoli Café will be open from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, offering a variety of delectable fare as well.
All through the Gardens, docents will be on hand to answer questions about the wide variety of plants and trees planted on the estate. Be sure to visit the Greenhouses for a rare chance to see the behind-the-scenes workings at Filoli. In the Potting Shed children will be able to decorate a pot and pot a spring plant to take home. The Visitor and Education Center will have several displays to view. Docents will be ready to lead a nature hike on the Filoli property for you and your family.
Please make your reservations as soon as possible because space is limited.
We hope you and your family will join us for Spring Fling at Filoli.
